Last week we focused on getting employment in "What's Up?" In Lesson 4, Samsam is very worried. She needs a job! She looks in the help-wanted ads and meets several managers, but some of them are mean to her. One manager said, "You need to speak more clearly."
Samsam asks for applications and applies for many jobs. She hopes to get an interview soon!
Here's some new vocabulary to study:
employment application clothes another
help-wanted companies newspaper manager
experience interview can’t first
We also practiced this dialogue between Samsam and her father, Adam:
Adam Good morning, Samsam. You look very nice! Your clothes are clean and neat.
Samsam I am really nervous. I hope to get the job today.
Adam Don’t worry! You are smart and hardworking.
Samsam Yesterday, that mean manager at Walgreens said I didn’t speak clearly.
Adam Not all managers are the same. This manager will see how good you are!
Samsam Thank you, Dad!
Adam Good luck on your interview! Don’t be late!
In this dialogue, we practiced the long /e/ sound in ea, ee, and e.
clean mean clearly really Walgreens
neat near reads speaks see
hear weak please each be
We also watched a video about job skills! Watch it again!
